EPL: Chelsea identify 38-year-old coach as Pochettino’s potential successor

Chelsea have earmarked 38-year-old coach, Kieran McKenna as a prime candidate to succeed Mauricio Pochettino, whose future at the club remains uncertain pending an end-of-season evaluation.

Despite Chelsea’s recent resurgence, which has propelled them into the top six ahead of the final matchday, the club’s leadership remains unconvinced about Pochettino.

A draw against Bournemouth on Sunday (today) will guarantee Chelsea an unexpected return to European competition, a significant turnaround from their mid-table struggles earlier in the season.

Although four consecutive victories have strengthened Pochettino’s case to stay, The Guardian reports that Chelsea are still considering a managerial change.

McKenna, who is currently the manager of Ipswich Town, is a strong contender, with Chelsea already initiating discussions with his representatives.

McKenna, seen as one of England’s most promising coaches, has achieved remarkable success since joining Ipswich in 2021, guiding the team from League One to the Premier League with consecutive promotions.

McKenna, whose playing career was cut short by injury, previously spent several years at Manchester United before taking on his first managerial role at Ipswich.
