A Supreme Court Judge, Justice Mohammed Baba Idris, has pledged his commitment to fair dispensation of justice at the apex court.
Justice Idris, who is the son of the late Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi, was among the 11 new justices of the apex court sworn in in February this year.
The justice’s ascension to the Supreme Court, brought the court to its full complement of 21 justices for the first time in its history as required by law.
Justice Idris who gave the assurance at a reception in his honour in Kutigi, Lavun local government area of Niger State promised commitment to his duties.
He said his appointment by the National Judicial Council (NJC) is a call to ensure that justice is delivered without fear or favour.
He appreciated royal father, Ezenua Kutigi, Alhaji Kudu Ibrahim, for supporting the Kutigi platform to organise the event and celebrate his elevation to the Supreme Court.
Two of the speakers at the event, a former director, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Chief Modecai Ladan and the immediate past senator representing Niger South senatorial district, Bima Enagi, observed that there are daunting challenges in the nation‘s judicial system but expressed confidence in the ability of Justice Mohammed Idris to work for the good of the judiciary.
In his remarks, the Ezenua of Kutigi, Alhaji Kudu Ibrahim, called on those in positions of authority in the area to work together to solve problems facing Kutigi town.
